Puyallup, Washington Drug and Alcohol Addiction Recovery Resource Guide

For those who live in Puyallup, WA, finding alcohol and drug addiction recovery resources can be a challenge. Many people simply do not know what types of options are available to them. Others may know, but they might be too afraid to reach out for help.

Even though professional treatment is an excellent option, it is not necessarily right for everyone. Many people would rather start with a 12-Step group like Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous. Others would rather begin by going to see a therapist, or going to a clinic. In addition, the families of alcoholics and addicts frequently suffer in silence because of their loved ones. Al-Anon is there to help them.

All of these are great, and can be very effective. But still, people are hesitant, and that may simply be because of lack of knowledge. That is why we have put together a helpful addiction recovery resource guide for Puyallup. It is our hope that this information will assist someone in making the decision to get help.

We are not affiliated with any of the following organizations. They are provided for informational purposes only.

Alcoholics Anonymous Information

For an alcoholic, trying to stop drinking on their own is almost impossible. They need to have some type of support to help them get through it. That is what makes Alcoholics Anonymous so great. They are an organization that was founded for the purpose of helping alcoholics find a place where they could support each other.

Alcoholics Anonymous Information

AA has been around since 1935, and they rely on the 12 Steps of Recovery as their main focus. The members meet on a weekly basis to discuss the issues of the week and just encourage each other. Sometimes meetings are closed, which means that only people in recovery are allowed to attend them.

One of the best parts about AA is the fact that it is free to become a member and attend meetings. Members are never asked to pay any type of dues or membership fees. The only requirement in place for membership is to have a desire to stop drinking.

AA meetings in Puyallup are very easy to find. They are taking place every day of the week in various locations at different times all over the city. This is a complete list.

Narcotics Anonymous Information

When Alcoholics Anonymous started to gain traction and grow, it helped a lot of people. But it was not open to any other types of addicts. People with drug addictions did not have anywhere to turn for the same type of help that AA offered. That is why Narcotics Anonymous was started.

NA is a little bit different from AA in a few ways. For one, they allow anyone with any type of addiction to attend their meetings. They also focus on a 12-Step Recovery program, but there are some slight differences between theirs and AA’s.

Narcotics Anonymous Information

The similarities are there as well. NA meetings are held weekly, and they are overseen by people who are also in recovery. Members are not required to pay membership fees or dues with NA as well.

A lot of people with addictions actually prefer NA to AA. They like the way the 12 Steps are written, and they enjoy how laid back the meetings are. Many lifelong friendships are formed by attending these meetings too.

There are also many Puyallup NA meetings to choose from, and they happen all throughout the week. We have listed them below.

Information on Al-Anon

Al-Anon is an organization that was set up as a way to help the families navigate the difficulties of dealing with an addicted loved one. They have weekly support groups in many cities across the United States. Anyone in the family is welcome to come and listen to others talk or they may share about their own struggles.

Information on Al-Anon

It is so difficult to feel that a loved one is battling an addiction and there is nothing that can be done. Families frequently feel all alone, and they fight their own battles. It is common for people to become depressed or anxious, and just because someone they love will not stop using.

Fortunately, Al-Anon is able to lift that heavy burden off their shoulders a bit. It provides them with an instant support network of people who know what they are going through.

Al-Anon meetings are available to families in Puyallup. They can be such a wonderful source of support. The following is a list of all the meetings in the area.

What is Alateen?

Alateen meetings are a great way for young people to get the support they need when they have an addicted loved one at home. It is an extension of Al-Anon, but it is set up only for teenagers, young adults and at times, older children. Adults are there during the meetings to moderate them; whether they occur in person or online.

What is Alateen?

It can be so hard to be a young person who struggles because of a loved one’s addiction. They often feel so powerless, and they frequently end up feeling isolated from the people they love. While they may be surrounded by friends, they may not feel comfortable confiding in anyone about what they are going through.

Alateen fills that need for young people. They need an outlet; a place to turn for help. They need to know that someone is there to listen to them, and that makes all the difference in the world. Young people end up knowing that they are not alone.

There are currently only two Puyallup area Alateen meetings. The information for them is as follows:

Tuesday Night Survivors Alateen
7:30 pm
Redeemer Lutheran Church
1001 Princeton St.
Fircrest, WA
Map

Auburn Wednesday Night Alateen
Wednesdays at 7:30 pm

Young people are always welcome to attend Al-Anon meetings with others in their family. They may also want to consider joining in with Alateen chat meetings online.

Puyallup, WA Treatment Options for Addiction and Alcoholism

Could You Benefit From an Inpatient Addiction Treatment Program?

It is possible that in order for your recovery to be successful, you will need to go to an inpatient program for help. This is the case for almost everyone with an addiction. There are so many benefits to going through inpatient treatment, and they include:

Alcohol and drug detox information
  • Being able to take some time for yourself and focus on your recovery.
  • Having nurses available 24 hours a day, every day.
  • Getting to meet and connect with others in recovery.
  • Having the opportunity to work with an excellent therapist.
  • Re-learning what it feels like to live without an addiction.
Types of rehab

Inpatient rehab has shown to be very effective; especially in combination with detoxification services.

Once someone decides to enter into treatment, they often need to go through drug and alcohol detox first. Withdrawal is extremely hard on the body and the mind. It is what makes it so hard to stop using for most people. There are even cases in which withdrawal symptoms can become fatal.

Going through detox helps the body to cope with the changes that occur once a drug is stopped. Some patients may be tapered off the drug they were using. Others may be given different medications to help with their symptoms. Different types of holistic therapies may also be utilized during the detox process.

There are certain drugs that require the individual to go through detox first. They include:

Detoxing is such an important part of the overall recovery process. It is a step that should not be skipped.

After detox has been completed, the patient will be ready for the next phase of their recovery. They will attend alcohol and drug rehab. Many programs offer both detox and rehab under the same roof. This makes it very convenient to transition.

Attending rehab is so vital for people who want to stop using long-term. They are able to meet regularly with a therapist and get other types of treatment as well. It is crucial for them to figure out what caused the addiction. That way it can be treated, which can reduce the risk of having a relapse.

Some people will be diagnosed with a co-occurring disorder, such as anxiety, depression or panic disorder. This condition will be treated because it most likely contributed to the addiction.

It is so important to treat the psychological side of the addiction during rehab. This is what helps people have a better chance at recovering long-term.
